Overview

Markino is a native macOS markdown editor. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data Markino collects, how it's used, and how it's stored.

Data Collection

Markino does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data or document content on external servers. Your documents stay on your Mac.

Anonymous Usage Analytics

Markino collects anonymous usage counts to help us improve the app. This includes:

• App launches: A count of how many times the app is opened
• Document opens: A count of documents opened, by type (markdown, text, PDF)
• Exports: A count of exports performed, by format (HTML, PDF, Markdown, text)
• PDF conversions: A count of PDFs imported, with page count

This data is collected via TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service. No file names, document content, or personal information is ever sent.

Crash Reporting

If Markino crashes, a crash report may be sent to Sentry to help us fix bugs. Crash reports contain:

• Stack traces and error information
• Device information (macOS version, app version)
• No document content or file names

What Markino Stores Locally

• Documents: Markdown and text files you create or open are stored wherever you save them
• Preferences: Your appearance settings and app preferences are stored locally using macOS defaults
• Recent files: Your recently opened files are stored in the standard macOS recent documents list

What Markino Does NOT Collect

• No document content
• No file names or paths
• No advertising identifiers
• No personal information
• No cookies or web tracking

Third-Party Services

Markino uses the following services:

• TelemetryDeck: Anonymous usage analytics
• Sentry: Crash reporting (only when the app crashes)
• Sparkle: Checking for app updates (connects to GitHub)

All communication uses HTTPS encryption.

Data Deletion

All Markino data is stored locally on your Mac. To delete all data:

• Delete the Markino app
• Clear recent documents from the File menu

Children's Privacy

Markino does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted at this URL with an updated date.
